ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

The onsite accommodation includes meal services and access to excellent facilities, including a gym, beachside workout area, swimming pool, golf course, tennis and squash courts, a sports oval and a range of scenic walking tracks.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent position on a 7:7 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Residential option to live on Groote Eylandt considered.  

As a Mining Engineer in the Short-Term Planning team, you will work closely with the mining operations team to deliver executable designs and schedules that are in line with the Mid-Term mining strategy. 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Develop, review and audit mine designs and schedules across the short‑term horizon
• Provide technical guidance and insights to support the Mid‑Term plan and operational teams
• Demonstrate strong, visible safety leadership across planning and execution activities
• Drive continuous improvement and support uplift in planning quality and site performance

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
• Prior experience in a similar role within an open‑cut mining environment
• Competent with mine design and scheduling software (Vulcan, Xecute, Deswik, Spry preferred)
• Ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders across site

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent with relevant experience)
• Current C Class Drivers Licence
