Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963

ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

This role is a permanent position on a 4:3, residential family friendly roster.

 

As the Mentor – Mine Rehabilitation, you will work with a team of Groote Eylandt traditional owners to safely deliver the GEMCO Rehabilitation Program through a range of best practice activities.

 

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

 

  • Native seed collection, processing and storage, seed propagation, tree planting and weed control
  • Role model strong visible safety leadership
  • Provide training and development support
  • Motivate and coach the team to overcome a range of challenges and develop strategies for success
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with employees and relevant stakeholders

 

 

ABOUT YOU 

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

 

  • A passion for delivering positive environmental outcomes in mining
  • Cultural awareness and understanding of issues affecting indigenous employees and the community
  • Demonstrated ability to model safe working practices & behaviours
  • Collect accurate records and computer proficiency
  • Operating vehicles & machinery safely in challenging environments

 

Qualifications for this position are: 

 

  • Demonstrated experience and/or qualifications in relevant field
  • Valid manual drivers licence
