ABOUTGEMCO

 

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world's manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

This role is a Permanent position on a 4 days on, 3 days off day shift roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.

 

As a Human Resources Business Partner, you’ll assist in shaping the people agenda for GEMCO by aligning HR strategies with business goals. This role combines strategic influence with hands‑on delivery—partnering with leaders to build capability, strengthen employee relations, and foster an inclusive, high‑performing culture. You’ll lead complex employee relations matters, guide organisational design, and drive change initiatives, ensuring every decision supports safety, fairness, and long‑term success.

 

Key deliverables for the role are, but aren’t limited to:

  • Partner with leaders to embed South32 values, foster engagement and build inclusive, high‑performing teams.
  • Provide expert guidance on employee lifecycle programmes—performance, culture, and development—ensuring consistency and impact.
  • Drive workforce planning and talent strategies, using data insights to anticipate capability needs and succession gaps.
  • Lead complex employee relations matters, including advocacy, ensuring compliance and fairness.
  • Shape organisational design and people frameworks, aligning roles to standards and supporting change initiatives.
  • Champion change management projects, mentoring others and modelling best practice to embed sustainable improvements.

 

ABOUT YOU 

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Trusted stakeholder management & coaching across all levels, with balanced judgement & empathy.
  • Navigating complex IR/ER in heavy industry; calm, fair conflict resolution and risk awareness.
  • Leading inclusive change & OD includingculturally respectful engagement with the Anindilyakwa community.
  • Clear, influential communication; persuasive negotiation & pragmatic problem‑solving.

 

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • A relevant degree or substantial experience in HR, ER, organisational behaviour or change management
