ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or residential on Groote Eylandt. Relocation assistance to Alyangula or Darwin, will be provided.

As the General Manager Closure Readiness, you will be accountable for the development and coordination of Closure Plans and Processes. Closure of GEMCO is unique in that we are returning the land to the Traditional Owners and it also requires the NT Government to play a lead role in defining the services of the future.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Provide technical inputs and influence the GEMCO life of operations plans for all operations.
• Play a lead role in the development of NTG Government required closure plans
• Establish clear lines of communication between all internal and external stakeholders ensuring they are regularly updated on the status of the studies and involved in related decision-making processes.
• Work closely with the operations short and medium term mine planning teams to identify opportunities to optimise closure.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Significant relatable operational and corporate experience.
• Demonstrated experience dealing with Traditional Owners and Government bodies.
• Ability to work at the strategic level and engage effectively with senior business leaders.
• Experience in working with diverse stakeholder groups across organisations.
• Strong conviction and demonstrates results in the application of safety in design principles.
• Well-developed strategic planning, economic analysis, and evaluation skills.

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Relevant qualifications in Engineering, Environmental or related disciplines.
