ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

The onsite accommodation includes meal services and access to excellent facilities, including a gym, beachside workout area, swimming pool, golf course, tennis and squash courts, a sports oval and a range of scenic walking tracks.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent full-time position on a 4:3 roster (Monday-Thursday), FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Residential option to live on Groote Eylandt.  

Domestic relocation to Darwin, Cairns or Groote Eylandt from anywhere in Australia is provided.

As the Civil & Tailings Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting safe, compliant and effective delivery of civil, operational and tailings engineering activities across all project phases.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Coordinate internal teams, partners and contractors to deliver safe civil and tailings work.
• Provide engineering oversight, governance and clear direction across all activities.
• Analyse monitoring data for tailings and civil assets and share actionable insights.
• Develop scopes, justification and plans for civil and tailings projects and improvements.
• Oversee safe, quality execution of civil and tailings projects aligned with business needs

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Project management capability with focus on risk, safety, compliance and delivery
• Ability to interpret civil, geotechnical or tailings data and provide clear recommendations
• Operational experience within mining or heavy industry, supporting engineering outcomes
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication across diverse teams

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Engineering degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or related discipline 
• Current C Class Drivers Licence
