ABOUT GEMCO
Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a Permanent position on a 4:3 Monday to Thursday roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns to GEMCO. Residential option to live on Groote Eylandt considered.
As the Biodiversity Offset Principal, you will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of biodiversity offsets programs that are designed to achieve No Net Loss outcomes associated with GEMCO’s operations.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Direct conservation programs that target priority pressures such as fire, feral cats and weeds
- Shape conservation strategies aligned with the Groote Archipelago Threatened Species Management Plan (TSMP), regulatory commitments and internal standards
- Oversee program scoping, resource allocation, budgets and evaluation frameworks
- Build partnerships with Traditional Owners, ALC Rangers, NT Government agencies and research partners
- Provide structured reports and progress updates to governance groups to support evidence-based decisions
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Strong knowledge of ecological issues affecting threatened terrestrial fauna
- Practical field-based conservation experience, including work with Indigenous Rangers
- Solid understanding of EPBC biodiversity offset requirements and No Net Loss plans
- Clear scoping of complex threatened species research projects
- Confident preparation and presentation of technical information to diverse stakeholders
- Effective partnership development with government, research bodies and landowners
- Familiar with Mapinfo / ArcGIS spatial data management
Qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Science, Ecology or related discipline
- Current C Class Drivers Licence
