Superintendent Electrical Engineering (EEM)

Illawarra Metallurgical Coal is a long term and leading coking coal supplier which operates two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

 

 

Location

 

The position will be based at our Appin operation which is in the southern coalfields of New South Wales, near the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney, with occasional travel to our Wollongong office, located at the University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus.

 

 

The opportunity

 

This is a permanent full-time position.

 

Reporting to the Manager Maintenance, this role will manage Underground Mine Electrical Engineering functions in accordance with current Health & Safety Management systems and relevant statutory legislation; while supplying statutory engineering expertise to operations.

 

Accountabilities –

 

  • Role exercises statutory accountability for electrical engineering (EEM) as a defined key statutory function in accordance with WHS (Mines and Petroleum) legislation
  • Maintaining eligibility and currency for the statutory function with a current practicing certificate
  • Develop, supervise, monitor and review the electrical engineering standards and procedures forming part of mining operations at the mine in accordance with current WHS systems and relevant statutory legislation
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness of all relevant electrical safety requirements, legislation and policies, and communicate these to employees
  • Oversee the investigation of incidents within area of responsibility promptly, identify electrical hazards and rectify them in a timely manner
  • Implement regular audits of the mine to assess compliance with required electrical engineering standards.
  • Maintain and update the mine Electrical Engineering Control Plan
  • Communicate to the statutory authorities, provide required copies of the statutory mine electrical plans and procedures, complete relevant notifications
  • Compilation and stewardship of their portion of the Budget; delivering their portion(s) of the budget to deliver results, on time and on budget
  • Implement, maintain and monitor safety critical risk controls as per operating discipline.
  • Demonstrate leadership through behaviours that are consistent with South32’s Values; South32 Code of Business Conduct, IMC Life Saving Rules and IMC Behavioural Expectations.
  • Encourage team members to drive effective hazard and risk identification, reporting and investigation to reduce incidents and injuries / illnesses.

 

 

About you  

 

Technical Skills

 

  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels of the business.

 

Experience

 

  • Demonstrated deep knowledge and experience related to effective management of geographically dispersed teams.
  • Minimum two years working in a coal mine with involvement in installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of electrical plant and installations.
  • Minimum of two years working in or about an underground coal mine
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute, influence and make decisions within multi-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to select, develop, coach and mentor employees resulting in improved engagement, diversity and organisational capability.

 

Qualifications

 

  • certificate of competence to be Electrical Engineering Manager of an underground coal mine.
  • Practicing Certificate to be an Electrical Engineering Manager.
  • Bachelor of Engineering (electrical) Australian University or UEE62311 Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineering – Coal Mining.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Riierr602d Emergency Preparedness qualification.
