Illawarra Metallurgical Coal is a long term and leading coking coal supplier which operates two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

 

 

Location

 

This position will be based at Appin Mine which is in the southern coalfields of New South Wales, near the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney.

 

 

The opportunity

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Underground Coal Mine Surveyor to join the Illawarra Metallurgical Coal Technical Services Team in a permanent full-time position.

 

As the Lead Surveyor you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely surveying services to the operation while ensuring statutory compliance to relevant legislation. In addition to this, you will lead and mentor a team of Surveyors.

 

Accountabilities –

 

  • Maintain statutory mine plans to the frequency and standards required by relevant legislation.
  • Maintain the mine’s underground survey control network.
  • Provide technical surveying services and support to mine operations and project teams.
  • Provide support in the “Authority to Mine” process.
  • Reconcile and report weekly and monthly production metrics to various levels of the business.

 

 

About you   

 

  • Bachelor of Engineering (surveying) or Bachelor of Surveying.
  • NSW Registered Mine Surveyor
  • Significant experience working as a surveyor at an Australian underground coal mine
  • Experience working in an “in charge” surveyor role is preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels of the business.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute, influence and make decisions within multi-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, coach and mentor employees resulting in improved engagement and team capability.
