Worsley Alumina is one of the largest and lowest-cost bauxite mining and alumina refining operations in the world. Worsley manages a bauxite mine, alumina refinery and port operations in Western Australia’s South West.

 

Location

 

This role will be based at our Worsley Refinery, where our employees choose to live in the Bunbury, Collie or other nearby communities which all offer an enviable country lifestyle. Surrounded by magnificent jarrah forests, pristine beaches and world-famous wineries, this is an opportunity too good to miss.

As there is no accommodation on site, you will be required to drive in and out on a daily basis, therefore you must live within 1 hour’s drive of Collie to be considered for this position.  

 

The Opportunity

This is a permanent full-time position.

Reporting to the Superintendent Electrical Maintenance A&I, the purpose of this role is to identify and lead improvement opportunities to get adherence to electrical compliance requirements and train personnel to manage electrical and arc flash risk. 

Additionally, you will:

  • Identify current electrical compliance gaps in business and lead improvement initiatives to close these gaps.
  • Implement industry best practices to improve compliance against regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Lead improvement initiatives to manage electrocution, arc flash and hazardous area risk.
  • Add maintenance plans in line with legislative requirements for ‘Care of Maintenance’ areas
  • Solve complex problems related to electrical compliance adherence that could impact business licence to operate
  • Actively liaise with engineering teams to update and develop electrical procedures.
  • Provide guidance and coaching on interpretation of legislation, Australian Standards and South32 standards
  • Lead investigations for potential or actual electrical compliance breaches and electric shocks. 
  • Develop and Facilitate electrical based training for licensed electricians, supervisors, apprentices and operators
  • Provide in field coaching of electrical tradespeople and apprentices, and other personnel where training interventions requirements are identified;
  • Applying a broad range of training and assessment methods and styles to effectively address skills and knowledge gaps.
  • Regular communication with Registered Manager and electrical leadership team on emerging electrical compliance risks with plan to resolve them.

 

About You   

The successful candidate will have experience in Electrical Compliance and Training, as well as the following:

  • Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience in operational Alumina refinery, gas production, transmission, petrochemical or other relevant heavy industry;
  • Experience in statutory appointed roles specifically with:
    • Site Electrical Supervisor
    • In House Nominee
    • High Voltage Isolation Officer
    • Radiation Safety Officer
  • Highly proficient/ subject matter expert in Electrical discipline with relevant qualifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and installation of electrical equipment in hazardous areas to the AS/NZS 60079 suite of standards;
  • Prior experience working within a training, Electrical Supervision/Specialist role or as an advanced tradesperson
  • Demonstrated written and oral English language proficiency.

Qualifications

 

  • WA A Grade Electrical License
  • Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering
  • Hazardous Area Classification and Design (Preferred)
  • Category 2 Gas Authorisation (Preferred)
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment
