ABOUT THE ROLE

 

This role is a Permanent 9-day fortnight working arrangement – Worsley Alumina Refinery which is a short drive from Collie (15 minutes), Bunbury (35 minutes) and other nearby scenic communities.

 

As the Senior Geotechnical/Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for the integrity of the Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) and water storage dams during design, construction, operation and closure.

This role will give you the opportunity to deliver challenging projects and provide technical leadership in tailings management.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:  

  • Establish engineering scopes for studies and develop clear project deliverables for tailings expansion, geotechnical investigation and dam safety projects.
  • Technical review of documentations relating to tailings and water dams across all stages of the asset’s lifecycle.
  • Provide leadership to junior engineers and supervisors/operators to promote safety and drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead the monitoring of TSF and water dam performance.
  • Be familiar with the content and requirements of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), ANCOLD and other regulatory standards on tailings and water dams.
  • Participation in team development and upskilling activities supporting an inclusive and high performing team environments consistent with South32 values.

 

 

 

ABOUT YOU 

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:  

  • Ability to communicate with and influence operational and engineering personnel.
  • Understanding of technical standards and regulations.
  • Proven ability of working in a large team of technical professions and relating technical solutions to financial decisions.
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision and able to self manage priorities.

 

Qualifications for this position are:

  • Engineering degree qualification in relevant engineering subject (civil, geotechnical, Environmental, geological)
  • Experience in tailings dam and mine engineering preferred but not essential.
