Location 

 

This role will be based at our Worsley Refinery, where our employee’s choose to live in the Bunbury, Collie or other nearby communities which all offer an enviable country lifestyle. Surrounded by magnificent jarrah forests, pristine beaches and world-famous wineries, this is an opportunity too good to miss.  

 

As there is no accommodation on site, you will be required to drive in and out on a daily basis. Employee’s ideally live within an hours drive of Collie, but some emaployees to drive to and from Perth.   

 

The Opportunity 

 

Reporting to the Superintendent Worsley Engineering Stewardship, the purpose of this role is to maintain the integrity of the Worsley Alumina Blueprint by providing specialised geotechnical and civil engineering technical expertise to the Operation and managing modifications and project tasks in accordance with relevant processes, standards and performance targets for HSEC, quality and cost for tailings storage facilities (Bauxite Residue Disposal Areas – BRDA) and dams. We have two opportunities available, one Junior and one Senior. 

 

Accountabilities   

 

Primary responsibilities are to:  

 

  • Provide civil engineering expertise and consultative support for the Operation and ensure:
    • Review and action of engineering change management requests associated with modifications and projects
    • Provision of relevant technical knowledge and input for the development of projects
    • Provision of relevant technical knowledge and support to the BRDA and Dams Operations and Construction, Maintenance Analysis & Improvement and Process Technical teams
    • Any Engineering services provided to the Operation meet relevant standards and are aligned to designed/agreed operating principles
  • Work closely with operational, maintenance and project execution teams to ensure that the work delivery meets the business requirement
  • Conducting weekly dam integrity inspections with the BRDA operations and maintenance coordinator to ensure that there are no major defects on the embankments or operational issues that could impact on dam stability or dam safety
  • Conducting audits to ensure compliance to South32 Dams Standard, engineering standards and statutory regulations
  • Conducting periodic inspections and technical reviews of the BRDA project construction with the BRDA Coordinator and Site engineer to ensure that engineering standards are being maintained, that the original design intent is being fulfilled and all safety guidelines are followed
  • Participating in risk assessments and investigations into safety incidents
  • Participating in 3rd party inspections and reviews of the BRDAs and/or other Dams by external consultants
  • Scoping all related BRDA and dams construction work packages in accordance with Stakeholder requirements
  • Scoping and coordinate annual embankment stability monitoring (CPTu testing, piezometer readings, settlement monitoring) activities
  • Preparing annual Ground Control compliance report. (BRDA and Dams Monitoring and Validation reports)
  • Providing engineering advice in terms of technical queries raised (Construction, Operations and Maintenance)
  • Ensure compliance to relevant processes and standards, statutory legislation, Material Risk Controls, and Industry, Australian or Government Standards.
  • Ensure content of technical documentation for the civil discipline reflects the “as built” condition as per authorised modifications and changes.
  • Verify engineering contractors adhere to work standards and understand the purpose and functionality of critical controls relevant to their work.
  • Promote discipline in engineering work, ensure quality of completed tasks and enhance technical knowledge of team members and other Engineering employees in regard to the civil discipline.

 

About You    

 

Experience/Technical Skills  

 

  • Tailings storage facilities and dams design and construction
  • Tailings storage facilities operation
  • Tailings storage facilities and dams risk management
  • The ability to build relationships and work collaboratively to deliver great outcomes
  • Strong experience predominantly in a technical capacity in a civil engineering field directly related to tailings storage facilities and dams in minerals processing or mining operations

 

Qualifications 

 

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Masters in geotechnical, soil mechanics or tailings related discipline
  • Eligible for Chartered Membership of Engineers Australia
