ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a Permanent 9-day fortnight working arrangement at Worsley Alumina.
Please note that on-site accommodation is not provided. Employees are expected to commute daily and ideally reside within one hour’s drive of the Alumina.
The Chemist Laboratory supports the monitoring and control of refinery and mine operations, providing analytical results and technical support to the Control Laboratory. Working closely with the Laboratory Superintendent and Operations, the Chemist helps investigate and resolve quality and process issues.
Key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot instruments to ensure reliability and accuracy
- Supervising external service contractors
- Commissioning new instrumentation
- Modification and development of analytical methods for continuous improvement
- Assist with end-of-life capital replacement of laboratory equipment and instruments
- Complete Certificates of Analysis and prepare analytical reports for final product
- Contribute to cost reduction and management through identifying opportunities and carrying out initiatives.
- Train laboratory personnel
- Be responsible for your own safety and contribute to the safety of all laboratory personnel
ABOUT YOU
You will demonstrate capability in:
- Clear communication and strong collaboration across a range of stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal skills, including constructive conflict resolution
- Sound risk assessment and risk management in the workplace
- Ability to prioritise work and self-manage competing demands
- A proactive team member with the ability to positively influence others
Qualifications for this position are:
- 10+ years’ experience as a Chemist in a production laboratory
- Strong analytical instrumentation capability, including commissioning, method development, and instrument maintenance and calibration
- LIMS coding experience (LabWare desirable) or strong coding aptitude
- Experience with Bayer refinery processes (well regarded)
- Laboratory supervision experience (well regarded)
