ABOUT THE ROLE 

                                                                                                                            

This role is a Permanent position on a 42-hour per week dayshift / nightshift roster, at our Boddington Bauxite Mine reporting to the Supervisor Production (Mining).

 

Please note that accommodation is not provided on site, you will be required to drive in, drive out to site on a daily basis. Employees ideally live within an hour’s drive of Boddington.

 

As the Leading Hand – Mining you will be responsible for leading the day‑to‑day coordination of mining activities, ensuring safe and efficient execution of the production plan, supporting your supervisor with shift delivery, and fostering a high‑performance team environment across the Boddington Bauxite Mine.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

 

  • Driving safe work practices by conducting pre‑start meetings, identifying hazards, and ensuring all team members understand critical controls and work requirements.
  • Overseeing daily field activities, monitoring equipment and conditions, and ensuring work is completed to operational, quality and safety standards.
  • Communicating production plans clearly at shift level, aligning crews to daily priorities, and adjusting tasks when conditions or operational needs change.
  • Tracking performance against shift targets, identifying variances early, and escalating issues that may impact production, safety, or equipment availability.
  • Working closely with Supervisors, Maintenance, Mine Services and Drill & Blast teams to coordinate activities, resolve operational issues, and maintain workflow continuity.
  • Supporting the capability and engagement of the crew through coaching, constructive feedback, and encouraging participation in continuous improvement activities.

 

ABOUT YOU

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:  

 

  • Providing effective leadership within a team-based environment, including guiding others, setting expectations, and supporting safe, productive work behaviours.
  • Proven experience in a mining operations environment for a minimum of five years, with strong understanding of field activities, equipment use and operational expectations.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, enabling effective collaboration with crews, Supervisors and cross‑functional teams.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, prioritise shifting tasks and adapt confidently to changing operational conditions.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, safe and accountable team culture, encouraging continuous improvement and proactive engagement.

 

Qualifications for this position are:  

 

  • A current Western Australian ‘C’ class driver’s licence.
  • Completion of Schedule 26 Statutory Supervisor training.
