We are seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist – Biodiversity to provide subject matter expertise and drive biodiversity outcomes across our operations. This is a key role within the Environment team, supporting operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and sustainable growth.
Reporting to the Manager Environment & Heritage, you will play an integral role in ensuring our operations meet biodiversity commitments while identifying opportunities to enhance ecological outcomes.
About the Role
In this role, you will lead and support biodiversity management across Worsley Alumina. You will provide strategic advice, oversee biodiversity data and compliance, and work collaboratively across internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver meaningful environmental outcomes.
This position is central to supporting current operations, expansion approvals, and future-facing biodiversity strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice to leadership on biodiversity risks, emerging issues, and improvement opportunities
- Support delivery of biodiversity commitments under regulatory approvals and internal standards
- Develop and implement processes to meet biodiversity-related approval conditions and management plans
- Manage biodiversity data, including reporting, compliance tracking, and disclosures
- Coordinate ecological studies, surveys, and investigations to support operations and future approvals
- Work closely with approvals, operations, and planning teams to integrate biodiversity considerations into business activities
- Engage and manage external consultants and contractors (flora, fauna, water, and feral management)
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of management plans, procedures, and systems
- Maintain effective communication across teams and stakeholders
About You
You are a collaborative and technically capable environmental professional who brings both strategic thinking and practical delivery experience.
What you will bring:
- Tertiary qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, Land Management, or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in biodiversity management
- Strong understanding of environmental approvals, compliance, and risk management frameworks
- Experience planning and implementing environmental programs and investigations
- Ability to manage consultants and interpret ecological data to inform decision-making
- Strong stakeholder engagement
- Experience with GIS mapping and environmental data systems (desirable)
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a similar role
