The location of this role is the Tucson, Arizona office.

 

 

The Role

The role is responsible for developing and leading all geochemical programs to support the Hermosa project.  Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to continuously improve geochemical monitoring and assessment programs to support project development activities including permitting, studies, exploration, construction, processing and mine planning. Provides expertise and supports identification and management of geochemical related risks, inputs into environmental permits and licenses, and mine planning and exploration decisions.

 

 

Accountabilities

  • Design and manage complex mine geochemical management studies and programs including collection of field data, interpretation and evaluation.
  • Direct and oversee fieldwork including site characterization.
  • Continuously improve geochemical monitoring programs and analyse data and information to design and commission site-based studies.
  • Provide technical guidance and direct studies on operational geochemical management to support exploration, mineral resource models, mine plans, mineral process flowsheets and waste management methods.
  • Provide technical expertise and input on environmental permits and licenses.
  • Work collaboratively with geology & exploration, mining, geotechnical and environmental specialists to provide necessary geochemical input and interpretations for exploration and mine design, hydrogeochemical characterization, stability analysis and permit preparation.
  • Collaborate with site-based teams including periodic inspections and audits of key programs and processes.
  • Engage when required with regulatory and community stakeholders.
  • Responsible for management and commissioning of geochemical studies for future project approvals processes.
  • Responsible for management of geochemical data, budget and contracts for geochemical programs, and related studies.
  • Contribute to short and long-range planning activities to progress and achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Complete special projects or other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct all activities safely and in accordance with site safety rules and regulations.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Geochemistry, Geology, or similar program. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and compliance experience in a broad range of geochemical concepts.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Drug Screen.
  • Driving company vehicle is required, must be insurable under company insurance policy.
  • Ability to work outdoors including during periods of inclement weather and perform physical activities including occasional work underground.
  • Current MSHA metal/non-metal annual training certificate (preferred).
  • Professional Geologist Registration (preferred).
  • Excellent organization and communication.
  • Proven computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, GIS, geochemical modelling software (e.g., PHREEQC, Geochemists Workbench, ioGAS).
  • Experience supporting groundwater transport studies in variably saturated media (e.g., MT3DMS, HYDRUS, FEFLOW).
  • Skill and ability to perform complex professional tasks independently with little instruction.
  • Ability to train and mentor more junior staff.
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience with 5 years in the mining sector.
  • Experience with multi-tasking, office procedures, tracking and maintaining project documentation with high attention to detail.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining a safe work culture.
  • Ability to work under pressure, maintain composure, set priorities, and work within and across teams.
