This role can be based in Tucson, Arizona or Vancouver, B.C.


The Role

The Engineering Manager is essential to the overall success of the organization by directing key decision that will support single option decision for Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) completion. This position is responsible for overseeing all discipline engineering inputs, processes, budgets, and timelines and making any necessary adjustments in order to ensure successful completion of the PFS.



  • Manage and direct the work that leads to single option definition for Clark PFS study.
  • Plan activities required to complete PFS to meet South32 study standards
  • Support/produce the documentation required for external review process
  • Serve as the engineering leader and technical expert;
  • Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by engineering staff;
  • Oversee budgets and timelines for PFS engineering including vendor engineering inputs;
  • Coordinate design activities to ensure conformity with governing regulations, building code and project environmental & community relations commitments;
  • Coordinate consultant and vendor communication to ensure the integrity of Intellectual Property (IP), and confidential client information;
  • Ensure that measurable, documented engineering QC/QA processes are agreed and implemented considering the service life of the facilities, sustainability and constructability objectives;
  • Implement and manage document control processes;
  • Coordinate the activities of the project engineering consultants and selected vendors to ensure timely completion of their respective work packages;
  • Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for improved outcomes including where appropriate value analysis and value engineering;
  • Communicate and collaborate with other managers, vendors, and contractors;
  • Prepare and deliver various engineering-related presentations, for internal and external stakeholders;
  • Prepare and deliver weekly and monthly reports and presentations in conformity with the internal package management processes;
  • Ensure that the relevant corporate risk management processes are implemented and monitored during execution of Engineering work and ensure that the relevant risk register(s) and accompanying mitigations are updated.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Clark PM.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mechanical/ Civil preferred);
  • Master’s degree in engineering management or business administration;
  • Drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance;
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team;
  • Self-starter and good planning capabilities;
  • Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively;
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct;
  • Analytical, and capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems;
  • Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the entire engineering team on track;
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment;
  • Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience;
  • Strong English language written and oral communication skills;
  • 15+ years of mining development engineering experience, ideally in a management role;
  • Demonstrated ability of above requirements.
