The location of this role is the Hermosa Project site near Patagonia, Arizona

 

The Role

The role is essential to the overall success of the organization by planning, managing, and monitoring engineering design development, detail design, packaging engineering deliverables and scopes of work to facilitate tender of work packages, monitoring cost and schedule performance and managing the change process to capture any deviations to cost, schedule or quality. This position is responsible for overseeing the following:  Offsite Infrastructure; Roads; Offsite Power Infrastructure, Logistics and such other work as may be assigned from time to time. 

 

Accountabilities

  • Coordinate the development of Engineering Scopes of Work with assistance of South32 engineering and external consultants as required;
  • Provide the requisite inputs to Project Services to tender Engineering Design Packages;
  • Once an Engineering Work Package(s) is/are awarded work with the appointed Engineering Manager and report on any cost, schedule or quality deviations;
  • Assist the Engineering Manager to resolve technical issues or conflicts;
  • Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by engineering staff;
  • Assist with the coordination of the overall design effort to ensure bottlenecks are expeditiously resolved;
  • Review and approve or reject consultant trend notices;
  • Provide the requisite inputs to Project Services to tender Construction Work Packages;
  • Once a Construction Work Package(s) is/are awarded work with the appointed Construction Manager and his team and report on any cost, schedule or quality deviations;
  • Review and approve proposed field originated design changes;
  • Assist the Construction Manager to resolve technical issues or conflicts;
  • Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by construction staff and contractors;
  • Assist with the coordination of the overall construction effort to ensure bottlenecks are expeditiously resolved;
  • Monitor field installation work and changes to ensure conformity with governing regulations and project environmental and community commitments;
  • Answer questions and resolve engineering design or construction issues brought forth by the engineering consultants and Hermosa project team members;
  • Ensure where required that VDC BIM methodology is applied in conformity with South32 and Hermosa business and technology objectives;
  • Update the relevant sections of the PMP (Project Management Plan) to incorporate new work packages or significant changes to ongoing EWP’s or CWP’s;
  • Assist with the implementation of project document control processes;
  • Monitor and report on Safety Performance for all work packages;
  • Engage with HSS and the Environmental Department to address any undesirable trends and provide visible leadership in all aspects of safety and environmental performance;
  • Monitor contractor quality control activities and arrange appropriate quality assurance surveillance and testing for ongoing and completed work;
  • Engage appropriately qualified consultants to undertake various tests and quality assurance checks to verify the quality of manufactured equipment and products;
  • This position will also monitor the SQS (Supplier Quality Surveillance) Systems of the appointed Engineering Consultant/s and ensure that defective work and materials are expeditiously addressed;
  • Provide guidance to the Construction team on the technical aspects and requirements of field installation work;
  • Communicate and collaborate with other managers, suppliers, and contractors;
  • Prepare and deliver weekly and monthly reports and presentations in conformity with the internal package management processes;
  • Ensure that the relevant corporate risk management processes are implemented and monitored during execution of Engineering and Construction work, and ensure that the relevant risk register(s) and accompanying mitigations are updated.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Study Manager FS Coordination.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Engineering;
  • Drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance;
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team;
  • Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively;
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct;
  • Analytical, and capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems;
  • Leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team;
  • Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the engineering and construction teams on track;
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment;
  • Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience;
  • Strong English language written and oral communication skills;
  • Ten (10) years of mining project experience coordinating design and field installation;
  • Demonstrated ability of above requirements.
