ABOUT Hermosa

Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene Intern will support workforce health, exposure mitigation, and associated risk management systems by contributing to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs that promote a safe and healthy work environment. This role will be based at the mine location in Patagonia, Az. 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Perform routine care, maintenance, and calibration of exposure monitoring equipment to ensure accurate and reliable data collection.
• Conduct occupational exposure monitoring activities using scientifically established industrial hygiene methods.
• South32 procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Review and analyze using appropriate mathematical and statistical methods exposure monitoring data to assess risks, identify trends, and support corrective actions.
• Prepare clear and concise reports summarizing exposure monitoring results and recommendations for risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with health and safety professionals to support continuous improvement of occupational health and industrial hygiene programs.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Enrolled in a graduate program in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health Science, Occupational Health, or a closely related field.
• May consider highly qualified undergraduates in an industrial hygiene relevant undergraduate program.
• Foundational knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, occupational health practices, risk management, and environmental health standards.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret exposure monitoring data and contribute to risk assessments.
• Familiarity with exposure monitoring equipment and basic understanding of calibration and maintenance procedures is preferred.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for reporting and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, safety-focused environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with data analysis tools is a plus.
• Commitment to workplace safety, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
