Illawarra Coal is a long term and leading coking coal supplier which operates two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.




The Opportunity – Planning Superintendent


Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the purpose of this role is to develop and communicate the medium-term integrated plans.


Key Accountabilities include:


  • Champion the South32 operating model, Values, Code of Conduct and Care Strategy.
  • Overseeing and actively leading the Planning team for optimal technical practices and operational solutions
  • Building and communicating accurate work plans and schedules from two years to seven years
  • Delivering planning design, analysis and scheduling into the Illawarra Metallurgical Coal operations
  • Ensuring all planning related risks are effectively understood and mitigated, enabling the sustainable optimisation of production;
  • Managing the integration of the short, medium- and long-term planning functions to ensure the accurate and timely provision of planning data and information;
  • Ensuring development and design standards are effective and proactively evolve as required;
  • Driving continuous improvement and best practice into Planning processes, QAQC routines and systems;
  • Ensuring compliance to Planning budget and other administrative requirements;

  • Bachelor of Engineering – Mining or equivalent.
  • Operational exposure in the underground coal industry at similar level within a similar role.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels of the business.
  • Previous experience in planning/scheduling
  • Strong business acumen with a comprehensive approach to options analysis ensuring all technical and economic factors are taken into account
  • Ability to understand and manipulate complex technical information and communicate to internal customers
  • Demonstrated deep knowledge and experience related to effective management of geographically dispersed teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute, influence and make decisions within multi-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to select, develop, coach and mentor employees resulting in improved engagement, diversity and organisational capability.
