Worsley Alumina is one of the largest and lowest-cost bauxite mining and alumina refining operations in the world. Worsley manages a bauxite mine, alumina refinery and port operations in Western Australia’s South West.

 

 

 

 

The opportunity

 

Reporting to the Superintendent Maintenance Analysis & Improvement, this role is responsible for providing specialised Structural Engineering support and expertise and contribute to the organisational direction by providing advice to the management on the business risks, technology and best practices.

 

This is a 12-month fixed term opportunity.

 

In addition you will:

 

  • Design, analysis, verification and remediation of new and existing mining structures (Steel and/or Concrete)
  • Initiate and guide projects with strategic importance to the business
  • Provide guidance to the management on the technical direction of work, risk and cost and ensure the timely delivery of engineering designs according to required standards
  • Ensure engineering designs meet required standards and validate that they are correctly implemented in accordance with those standards
  • Engage and interact with stakeholders within the business to establish best practice for equipment standard, strategy and selection
  • Act as the technical authority for changes to the plant structural engineering blueprint and standards
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance to engineering standards, statutory regulations
  • As a technical expert, provide guidance around managing the structural integrity risks
  • Provide short term and long-term repair scopes based on the structural design analysis
  • Provide FEA based recommendation to identify, manage or eliminate structural integrity risks

 

About You  

 

  • Tertiary engineering qualification in relevant discipline
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Australian standards and acknowledged in depth expertise in core discipline area
  • Ability to provide structural design calculations for proposed engineering changes
  • FEA modelling experience
  • Ability to complete/review structural design, inspection and integrity analysis.
  • Experience in the design, analysis, verification and remediation of new and existing mining structures (Steel and/or Concrete)
