ABOUT PERTH OFFICE
 
South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE 
 
This full-time, permanent position will be at our head office in Perth. We understand and value the benefits of flexibility and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home).

The Principal Resource Geology will join our Planning Team as the custodian of the mineral inventory at our Cannington Mine. You will work with operations and your peers to develop and maintain reliable resource estimates designed to de-risk our mineral inventory and inform our strategic planning processes. Your experience will help us better understand our deposit and confidently plan our future mining.

Reporting to the Lead Resource Geology, key accountabilities include:   
 
•    Lead the definition and oversight of our Cannington resource ensuring adherence to internal governance and external reporting requirements while maintaining the highest technical standards.  
•    Contribute strategic insights to exploration work programs, leveraging your geological expertise to optimise target generation and enhance our resource development pipeline. 
•    Provide specialised geoscientific advice to our operations and projects, delivering technical guidance and mentoring that supports informed decision-making and operational excellence. 
•    Manage the reporting and declaration of Mineral Resources, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality technical information and documentation that underpins our corporate reporting obligations. 
 
ABOUT YOU   
 
You will ideally have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:   
 
•    Leverage your geology expertise in a role that values both your technical depth and natural talent for collaborating with others to solve complex challenges. 
•    Apply your comprehensive experience as a Resource Competent Person across multiple commodities, bringing valuable insights from both exploration and mine geology to guide our critical decisions. 
•    Advanced understanding of exploration and mine geology to work, using your expertise in sampling theory and drilling to ensure we collect high-quality data from the start. 
•    Transform complex geological data into clear resource models using your advanced skills in analysis, Geostatistics and modelling, helping us make informed decisions about our deposits. 
•    Apply the principles of mineral economics and uncertainty modelling to guide/support our projects Lead the way with your practical experience across the entire geology value chain, using your natural ability to spot challenges and develop solutions that keep our projects moving forward efficiently.

Qualifications for this position are:   
•    B.Sc. (or higher) in Geology (or equivalent), post-graduate qualifications in Geostatistics will be highly regarded. 
•    Acted as a base metals (BHt or IOCG) Mineral Resource Competent Person (or equivalent) (ESSENTIAL)
