ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent position on a 4:3 roster (Monday-Thursday), FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Residential option to live on Groote Eylandt considered.  

As the Principal Improvement, you will be responsible for leading and embedding continuous improvement initiatives across GEMCO to optimise operational performance, enhance capability, and support business strategy execution.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Lead the implementation of the South32 Operating Model and System at GEMCO
• Conduct performance diagnostics and identify operational improvement opportunities
• Coach and mentor operational personnel in business improvement methodologies
• Manage the improvement project pipeline and providing governance and direction

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Proven experience in a similar role, driving improvements within large-scale organisations
• Strong communication and consultative skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
• Demonstrated ability to lead change and influence decision-making across teams
• Experience in coaching, training, and building improvement capabilities in operational teams

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Tertiary, trade, or postgraduate qualification in relevant discipline (Engineering, Finance, Mining, Processing or similar)
• Current Driver’s Licence
