POSITION SYNOPSIS:

The purpose of this role is to direct workplace occupational health and hygiene programmes, execute exposure assessments, reports on the effectiveness of operational control measures and identify exposure reduction opportunities within the operation.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Serious contenders will have a Degree/BTECH/National Diploma in Environmental Health or Industrial Physiology with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in Occupational Hygiene;
  • Certificate in Mine Environmental Control together with SAIOH registration as an Occupational Hygiene Technologist OR Advanced Certificate in Mine Environmental Control plus SAIOH registration as an Occupational Hygienist is essential;
  • Computer skills (MS Office Suite/SAP/IsoMetrix) is essential;
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of relevant current Occupational Health & Hygiene legislation and hazard identification is essential;
  • Experience in Opencast or Underground Mining will be added advantage;

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop occupational health & hygiene standards and programmes for the operation based on risks, occupational hygiene principles and legal requirements;
  • Carry the 12 (1) legal appointment in terms of the MHS Act and reporting back to the Operations Manager in this regard;
  • Baseline and routine review of the qualitative exposure and risk assessments, including the routine personal monitoring programme;
  • Baseline and routine workplace survey/inspections and audits (airborne pollutants, noise, illumination, hazardous materials etc;
  • Collaborate with the OMP with regards to occupational exposure risk profiles, occupational illness investigations and operational wellness programmes;
  • Routinely monitor and report on the effectiveness of the Health & Hygiene management systems at the Operation;
  • Provide accurate exposure information and provide professional input on illness investigations;
  • Liaise with Regulatory Authorities on reporting, auditing activities and directives issued.
